This year I’ve been working on some commissions of people’s homes in watercolor. It’s been an honor to capture these meaningful places and I hope the paintings bring warm memories to the owners.
France
Some watercolor paintings inspired by my travels through France last summer. Charm and inspiration everywhere you look!
Cabin Jam
This watercolor painting is inspired by a weekend getaway with my family. Growing up, the sounds of my dad and brother playing music often filled my home. Now that we are grown, sitting around and listening to them play brings me back to that time. This fall morning and cabin porch were particularly cozy.
Window Plants
I made this little shadow box entirely out of cut paper! It was fun to work really small and add 3D elements.
Miguel de Unamuno
This is a painting of the Spanish writer and philosopher Miguel de Unamuno. "El progreso consiste en el cambio." -Unamuno
Girls in hats
Two small watercolors of girls in hats. I think I might make a few more!
I've been having lots of fun trying my hand at the potter's wheel recently. I'm taking a beginner's class with a friend at Penguin Foot Pottery. Going to the pottery studio has been the highlight of my weeks. I can't wait to make more!
Ceramic Storytellers
My students inspire me all the time and I learn so much from them! I never thought of myself as a ceramics person, but by teaching ceramics to my students I have really developed a passion for it and learned so much about hand building. One of my favorite projects that my 6th graders made are these ceramic storytellers, inspired by the clay storytellers of the Pueblo people of New Mexico. They are each so unique and adorable!
Nook
I've made a few watercolor paintings recently dealing with the theme of home and comfort.
Wine & Cheese Feast
Little painting in gouache.
Augusta
This is a watercolor painting of a cozy little room in my first Chicago apartment.
Nature Prints
My 6th graders made some beautiful prints to represent fall. They studied the patterns in leaves, pine cones, and acorns to inspire abstract designs. They printed their designs to create tiles with radial symmetry. The colors outside this fall were so vibrant and their prints definitely reflect that! I am so inspired by their amazing results!
Ode to Brandi
Some pencil sketches of the cutest and fluffiest dog there is.
Warmth
This is a watercolor I recently finished based on an old photo of my Grandmother. She seems to be enjoying the warmth of the sun. I'm trying to do as much of that this summer as I can too!
Summer productivity
A small watercolor to ease into summer productivity.
Recent Metalsmithing
Recently I've taken up metalsmithing as a hobby. The Lillstreet art center in Chicago has an amazing metalsmithing department with incredibly talented artists! It's been fun to work with a new medium, and I have so much respect for how much time and detail goes into handmade jewelry. These are a few pairs of earrings I made in my most recent class...
Alhambra
I made this oil painting for my cousin last year. We both studied in Granada, Spain while we were in college. The Alhambra is just one of the many things that makes it such a magical city. I can't wait to return there one day. Hasta pronto, Granada!
End of the school year
It's hard to believe another school year has come to an end. My 7th graders made these awesome slab built ceramic pie boxes to finish up the year. Some of them look good enough to eat!
I love this hippo themed pie box too!
